Kech is the land of love and loyalty which has great importance because of its geographical location and it is the center of Mekran Region geographically, socially, and politically; in addition, Kech has numerous historical forts and these forts are approximately 4000 to 5000 BC according to archaeologists. The prominent forts of Kech are Bahman fort, Gushtang Fort, Gushtang Dumb, Meeri Fort which is also known as Sassi Punno fort.
Moreover, archaeology is the study of past human behavior through the systematic recovery and analysis of matter and objects, these objects are called artifacts and these artifacts can be as small as a button or as large as a building. These artifacts are proof of past culture and serve as a physical connection to the past.
Further, archaeology is divided into prehistoric and historic archaeology. Prehistoric archaeology is the study of culture which did not have a written language because prehistoric people did not write about their culture prehistoric archaeology is recognized by the tools, potteries, ceremonial objects, etc and historic archaeology is written culture which examines the records from the past that includes diaries, court, census, tax records, deeds, maps and photographs.
It staggers me to state that manifold land grabbers and mafias have captured the place of forts which are assets of the nation. It is every individual responsibility to preserve the archaeological sites because extermination of archaeology is the extermination of the nation.
Most importantly, the Kech Archaeology department building was small and was in the miserable condition previously but the broad visional, stalwart, ingenious political leader and former Chief Minister of Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch enhanced and developed new shape of the Kech archaeology Department building. in addition, he created 45 technical posts for Kech archaeology Department with the aim to promote Baloch Culture, Balochi songs, and poetries but the prevailing regime flunked to advertise the vacant post.
Additionally, Social activist and founder of Kech archaeology group Ejaz Ahmed told us that historical sites are our assets. Artifacts reflect our past traditions and living nations always protect their forts. They are considered protected sites. we are trying to protect and fence Meeri fort which is a symbol of the romance of Sassi and Punno. It bonds Sindh and Balochistan love.
The students of Kech have demanded to initiate a department of archaeology at the University of Turbat in order to seek knowledge about the nation's heritage.
I request the Secretary of Archaeology Balochistan to take some pragmatic and concrete measures to protect and preserve the historical sites of Kech because they are the heritage and assets of the nation.
