Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series, written by British author J.K. Rowling. It was published in 2000 and quickly became one of the most popular books of the year. The book follows the story of Harry Potter, a young wizard attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In this book, Harry is in his fourth year at Hogwarts and finds himself unexpectedly entered into the Triwizard Tournament, a dangerous competition between three wizarding schools.

The book begins with Harry spending the summer with his Muggle (non-magical) relatives, the Dursleys. He is looking forward to returning to Hogwarts and spending time with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. However, things take an unexpected turn when Harry is chosen to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, a competition that has not been held for over a century due to its dangerous nature.

Harry is initially confused and upset by this turn of events, as he did not enter himself into the tournament and is too young to compete. However, the magical Goblet of Fire, which is used to select the champions, has chosen Harry's name as the fourth competitor, alongside Cedric Diggory of Hogwarts, Fleur Delacour of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and Viktor Krum of Durmstrang Institute.

The Triwizard Tournament is a series of three tasks that the competitors must complete, each one more dangerous than the last. Harry is initially reluctant to compete, as he is worried about the danger involved and the fact that he did not enter himself into the tournament. However, he is bound by a magical contract to compete, and so he begins to prepare for the tasks with the help of his friends and the Hogwarts staff.

The first task involves the competitors retrieving a golden egg from a dragon's lair. Harry is able to use his skills as a seeker in Quidditch, a wizarding sport, to outmaneuver the dragon and retrieve the egg. The second task involves the competitors rescuing someone they care about from the bottom of a lake. Harry rescues Ron's sister, Ginny, who has been taken by the merpeople that live in the lake. The third and final task involves navigating a maze filled with obstacles and dangers, with the Triwizard Cup at the center.

Throughout the tournament, Harry is also dealing with the return of Lord Voldemort, the evil wizard who killed his parents and tried to kill him as a baby.
