According to the Planning Commission of Pakistan (2011), the poverty rate has increased from 23.9% to 37.5% in the last three years. The commission estimates that 35.5 million people were living below the poverty line in 2007, but that number had risen to more than 64 million in 2010.
Lack of quality education Our country is not able to face the challenges of the 21st century. Because of poverty, people cannot provide a good education for their children. In addition, the government's inattention is, even more, exacerbating the situation. Although governments have taken various steps to promote education, the literacy rate has remained at 56% over the course of the decade. Due to low investment, public schools lack basic facilities like adequate classrooms, water and sanitation facilities, electricity. The private sector is doing commendable work in this regard. But the monetary goal of education in this sector is beyond the means of the poor. According to UNESCO, the primary completion rate in Pakistan is 33.8% for women and 47% for men, indicating that people in the sixth largest country do not have access to basic education.
Pakistan is facing a drastic overpopulation. Pakistan has the highest growth rate and is one of the highest in the world. The population has grown to more than triple since 1947. Pakistan is approaching the figure of about 180 million. Population growth was a real problem for all governments. It is very difficult to control an increasing population with limited resources. There is a huge economic gap between people. The poor poor commit suicide due to starvation and the rich are busy accumulating more money. These social issues directly affect the people. The vast majority of the population has largely surpassed the resources in production, facilities, and employment.
Pakistan is suffering from the problem of unemployment badly. The current rate of unemployment is 15%. Thousands of young doctors, engineers, and other educators are out of work. Other young people do not have the opportunity to use their skills or abilities in the right direction. Due to unemployment, Pakistan is facing the problem of brain drain because we cannot use their precious hands in the progress of the country. The most frightening part is that this rising every year will turn out to be dangerous to the economy of Pakistan. It adversely affects society. It creates a sense of despair and revenge. In such situations, people resort to violence and solve problems in extreme ways.
Pakistan is an agricultural country and most of the people are professional farmers. One has land to meet the needs of his family, but when he is young the land should be divided among his children. The land is not enough to support the family after partition. Now his children's families suffer and spend their lives below the poverty line and people are not willing to help each other. Eventually, everyone loses faith in others, which is affecting our social and economic system and that is another reason for poverty.
Law and order issues abound. Terrorist attacks create uncertainty in the stock markets and people who profit from stocks get a loss because of which the whole country is facing an uncertain rise in commodity prices. Consequently, poor people always deal with it. The main biggest cause of poverty is people's social dishonesty and irresponsible attitude. Everybody is trying to get rich by unjust methods. Because of poor governance, the government loses control over the state of law and order. When people present themselves to institutions, they set an awful example. Suicide bombings, targeted killings, robberies, and other crimes are commonplace. And the government also seems defenseless in this matter.
