Parts of speech


A class of words that indicates how a word function and works in a sentence is known as part of speech.


1.Noun: It is a naming word of something that identify a person, a place, an animal, a thing or an idea.

Examples; woman, Eman, office, music, England, lesson, horse, October.

=>Usage of Noun in sentences

i) Maryam was attending the lecture.

ii) He lived in Turbat.

iii) We do not break the law.

iv) I wrote many articles.

 

2.Verb: It shows such words in sentences which express or describe an action.

Examples; drive, think, name, order, prove, smile, buy, imagine.

=>Usage of verb in sentences

i) She is riding a bike.

ii) You accepted the request.

iii) It did not work well.

iv) They had lost my documents.

 

3.Pronoun: A word that can replace a noun in a sentence or something which had been mention.

Examples; she, myself, who, that, him, we, yours, them.

=>Usage of pronoun in sentences

i) He is a bank manager.

ii) Which of those are yours?

iii) The girl caught the thief herself.

iv) The black car is mine.

 

4.Adjective: It describes and modifies a noun or a pronoun to make it more specific.

Examples; happy, cruel, black, bitter, small, square, large, great.

=>Usage of adjectives in sentences

i) They buy expensive gifts.

ii) She is a strong woman.

iii) A huge truck can pass the bridge.

iv) This girl was in a sad mood.

 

5.Adverb: A word or a phrase the modifies or give more information about a verb and adjective.

Examples; almost, deeply, bravely, usually, interestingly, nicely, mysteriously, hopelessly.

=>Usage of adverb in sentences

i) You never trust anyone.

ii) We have been seriously doing our project.

iii) She immediately went to hospital.

iv) He dances slowly.

 

6.Preposition: It is used before a noun or pronoun to indicate and show relationship, direction or location of something.

Examples; throughout, in, before, round, since, aside, beyond, at.

=>Usage of preposition in sentences

i) It seems cold outside.

ii) They run toward him.

iii) Keep your phone on the table.

iv) My pencil is between notebook and computer.

 

7.Conjunction: A word which is used to join two or more words, sentences, clauses or phrases.

Examples; because, nor, therefore, but, so, unless, that, or.

=>Usage of conjunction in sentences

i) I met her while she was busy.

ii) She can work hard and improve herself.

iii) We were boring whereas they were funny.

iv) Let him know if she likes travelling.

 

8.Interjection: It is a word used for expressing emotion or feeling that occurs that suddenly.

Examples; wow, Oops, ouch, hurrah, what, ugh, oh no, aww.

=>Usage of interjection in sentences

i) Alas! She fell down.

ii) Oh! I failed my exams.

iii) Huh! They do not care.

iv) Great! You did it.
