His father's name was Mir Habib Khan. Mir Gul Khan's mother was Mrs. Hooran. She was the sister of Mir Raheem Khan, the head of the Rakhshani Badini tribe. She was an educated woman who could read Persian and Quran (Arabic) at the time, which was considered a man's achievement, not to mention a woman's. She played a vital role in the formation of her sons.

Gul Khan was number 4 among the five brothers. He had three sisters. His older brother Mir Samand Khan (born in 1889) had served in the British Army and had become a commander in the Khan of the Kalat army. early life

Gul Khan Nasir studied until he finished fifth grade at Noshki. After that he went to Mastung where his uncle worshiped. He did not spend much time there because soon, his uncle was sent to Quetta. Here, Gul Khan was admitted to Golden Sandeman High School where he studied until his tenth grade. After matriculating in Quetta, Mir Gul Khan went to Lahore where he graduated from Islamia College Lahore F.Sc. Medical. During her studies, Mir Gul Khan's eye became infected. Eventually the infection got so bad that he had to stop his studies and return to Balochistan.

While studying in Mastung, Mir Gul Khan was impressed by Abdul Aziz Kurd, Malik Faiz Muhammad Yousafzai, Mir Mohammad Aazam Khan Shahwani and others in charge of the secret political party, "Anjuman-i Ithihaad-i Balochaan". It was in Mastung that Mir Gul Khan became friends with Malik Abdul Rahim Khwajakhel who was one year older than Mir Gul Khan. Malik Abdul Rahim Khwajakhel and Mir Gul Khan remained close friends until the death of Malik Rahim.

Mir Gul Khan had been composing poetry since the age of eight but it was during his time in Lahore that he began writing Urdu poetry which was a revolution. Her poem became very popular and was published in newspapers under her Nasir pen which she chose as a tribute to Mir Nasir Khan The First (The Ninth Khan of Kalat, also known as Noori Nasir Khan). His Urdu poems, such as Nawab Youzaf Ali Khan Magsi and the poems of Mohammad Hussain Anqa, aimed to raise political awareness about the people of Baloch, especially the youth. During his time in Lahore Mir Gul Khan played a key role in the student organization "Baloch aur Balochistani Thalbaa kee Anjuman" (B.B.S.O) formed by Mureed Hussain Khan Magsi and other Baloch students on the advice of Mir Yousaf Ali Khan Magsi.

Lahore, at the time, was a hub of knowledge and political and social activities. The political, cultural, social and literary movements in Lahore had a positive impact on Mir Gul Khan Nasir. On his return to Quetta Balochistan was divided into several parts namely the Chief Commissioner's Province and The Balochistani princess states. The province of Balochistan was a direct British colony while the Balochist tribes were indirectly controlled by Britain by the Councilors (sardards) and rulers, who had purchased them. In this situation the Balochistan administration was not in a hurry to make the state prosperous and improve the lives of its citizens. Because of these circumstances Mir Gul Khan Nasir entered politics to join other leaders who were fighting to liberate the people of Balochistan from the power of the State.
